Our hats are off to this excellent dwarf blueberry developed by Michigan State University! This wonderful dwarf is a neat, dense 1-2' shrub so you can have blueberries in a container garden! A very attractive specimen with its deep-green glossy leaves and fiery-red fall color. Produces a fine crop of delicious pea-sized light-blue berries; an outstanding plant that makes a great bonsai subject. 1,000 -1,200 chill hours are recommended. S/M
Vaccinium corymbosum - Vaccinium angustifolium cross. Plentiful white blooms in spring, medium-sized light blue berries in summer. Perfect for defining borders, as container plants and excellent for bonsai. Grow in filtered to full sun, in moist, well-drained soils. 1-2' high and wide. Zone 3-7.
Logee's specializes in container-grown fruits and 'Top Hat' blueberry is a real winner. It can be grown as a potted patio plant or as a foreground plant in the edible garden or landscape. It has a consistent round growth habit, strong flowering, and large fruit set of delicious berries. The leaves are small, finely serrated and glossy green. This self-fertile variety doesn't need a cross pollinator to set fruit. The plentiful white blossoms appear in spring followed by an abundance of sweet fruit in mid-summer. An exceptionally hardy variety, it's cold tolerant to zone 3. 'Top Hat' is a new dwarf variety that grows only 20" tall x 24" wide. It originated as a multi-generational cross between true angustifolium 'wild' blueberries and standard northern highbush blueberry selections. Grow in well-drained, acidic soil. Best grown in zones 3-7.
Top Hat Blueberry is a compact shrub ideal for containers and small patios, plants are cold hardy and easy to grow. Round, firm, flavorful fruits are a dusky blue just like those you find in the stores - perfect for fresh eating fresh. You will need 2-3 different kinds for best cross-pollination.
