(AKA Schizostylis coccinea 'Oregon Sunset') Need fresh cut flowers for your Thanksgiving table?? Sometimes we even have December flowers on this one. Late blooming perennial with 2’ thin, iris like, evergreen foliage topped with 2 ½’ - 3’ spikes of glowing salmon red blossoms that start in September and on to November or longer! Thank you Gossler Farms for this gaw-gee-uz Crimson Flag!! Sun, decent soil and a little water. USDA Z7
Our own named plant. In the 90's we discovered this vibrant red schizostylus in a planting of S. Mrs. Haggarty. This pretty late summer and fall blooming bulb is great for cut flowers.
Ignored all spring and summer at the nursery, this hardy South African native comes into its own in the fall and blooms continuously well into winter (and sometimes through into the New Year!). Fine-textured iris-like leaves and deep peach gladiolus-like flowers on 1-2' tall spikes. Really a must-have for the fall garden.
Has shiny, intensive coral-red, open star-shaped flowers. Likes well drained soil, but not too dry in summer. Excellent cut flowers. May bloom all winter in zones 8 and higher.
A nice selection from the legendary Gossler Farms Nursery in Oregon. Long noted for offering discerning plants, this introduction of theirs offers excellent flowers of a glowing coral-red on sturdy stems. This bloom like mad in the fall and will spread into a showy clump,
Fall blooming rhizomatous perennial, clump forming, watermelon red.
