Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Vaccinium corymbosum Cabernet Splash offers the best of both worlds - edible and ornamental. Spring brings new foliage which emerges a deep wine-red and becomes thick and deep green with red highlights. In the fall, plants offer brilliant red fall colour. On the edible side, the white, urn-shaped, spring flowers give way to large, early ripening blueberries just like 'Toro', since Cabernet Splash arose as a branch sport of this top cultivar. Very hardy on an upright, robust plant 3-4 feet tall and wide. Use in the edible garden, as an informal hedge, or in a large pot on the patio. Self-fertile but yield increases with another different blueberry close by. Attracts bees and birds. Cultivar name: 'Vacbri1'
If you are looking for the perfect ornamental-edible, you need this plant! The foliage on this outstanding 3-4' shrub emerges a deep, dark wine color before mellowing to dark-green overlaid with splashes of wine in summer. Bright-white blossoms in spring become masses of medium-sized, delicious blueberries. Autumn finds this delight ablaze with fiery red foliage. This blueberry is wonderful as an accent, grouping or hedge. S/M PPAF
Comes from V. ‘Toro’. It has deep purple growth when the foliage emerges. Through the summer, the leaves keep an attractive purple cast. Produces lots of medium size fruit in summer.
