Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The dark glossy green, thornless, fern-like foliage of the Soft Leaf Mahonia radiates from atop well-branched stems. Spikes of lightly fragrant bright yellow flowers emerge in radiating clusters from the tops of the plants in late winter and spring attract a variety of smaller pollinators and are followed by glaucous green berries that ripen to purplish-blue. The Soft Leaf Mahonia is a shade loving small evergreen shrub that is relatively fast growing to about 3' high and wide and is practically maintenance free. An excellent addition to the garden and landscape as well as in containers. Due to the Federal quarantine on Black Stem Rust that affects grains we are not allowed to ship Mahonia into much of the northern US.
