Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Many of you know I am huge fan of PERENNIAL Dianthus and this is one of my favorites - selected from a batch of mixed seedlings here at the nursery and named after my favorite Aunt who was so kind and sweet to me. Bursting into a multitude of cherry centered sweetheart pink 2” single blooms held atop 6”-8” stems in Spring, the deliciously scented blooms last for months, especially when deadheaded (think romantic bouquets). Low, dense, blue-green foliage makes a pretty groundcover to 18” across and is weed suppressing to boot! Cut back severely (to 3” tall) after bloom and side-dress with compost - it’ll bounce back for a second grand burst of flowers in Summer-Fall. Cut back again in Winter for a perfect Spring display. Dianthus are best grown on the edge of a bed (they love the drainage) or in containers (5+ gal). To 12”x18”. Every garden should have at least one Dianthus plumarius! Long lived!!
