Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Bletilla striata is one of the most beautiful hardy terrestrial orchids, normally with a magenta flower. This Japanese selection has a true albino flower with no trace of any other colour. This is much more beautiful than the white-flowered form commonly sold in western horticulture. The leaves are arching, broad and grass-like. This easy terrestrial orchid is native to China and Japan. Best in part shade in evenly moist, well-drained soil.
