Very similar to its cousin Calycanthus floridus; Calycanthus fertilis is somewhat smaller, only reaching 5-7', it also features more abundant yet less fragrant wine-colored blooms. The spicy-sweet blossoms are beautiful and somewhat magnolia looking, blooming from April to July. This eastern native also has the fine bark which smells of camphor when the stems are scraped or snapped. Plant one of each species to get the fragrance and blooms! S-PSh/M
