Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A wonderful ornamental and edible shrub native to the northeastern U.S. from the Smoky Mountains to the Great Lakes and up into Canada. Dainty white bell-like blooms in spring give way to masses of exceptionally flavored small dark blueberries which are full of antioxidants. Native Americans kept wooded areas burned on a regular basis to ensure good crops of these berries. Highly ornamental in autumn when the tiny leaves of this little 1-2' shrub burn brilliant crimson. This shrub makes a fine carpet in acid sandy soil. Also makes a superb wildlife planting. S/M
White blooms arrive in May, followed in mid-summer by dark blue berries relished by birds and humans alike. Low in stature with a tolerance for a range of soils. Lowbush Blueberry has glossy foliage that turns from dark blue-green in summer to an attractive maroon-purple in autumn. Zones 2 - 4.
Native to the NE United States. Deciduous. White flowers in May followed by sweet, edible bluish-black fruit maturing in mid to late summer.
