The bright-white early summer Magnolia-like flowers of this fine specimen have gorgeous contrasting purple and gold center markings. The blooms are powerfully fragrant with notes of strawberries, melons and spice; no fragrant garden is complete without it! The blossoms appear heavily in May with a scattered rebloom in June and July. This 5-7' tall and slightly wider shrub makes a great hedge or accent and has lovely golden fall color. A fantastic hybrid by Dr. Tom Ranney, North Carolina State University. S-PSh/M PP15925
Venus' can pose amongst other shrubs or serve as a beckoning sentinel by your front door; well-drained soil and ample light will ensure its vitality. (pp#15,925) The crown jewel of Dr. Tom Rainey's breeding efforts at North Carolina State University, this undeniably beautiful hybrid is a complex one, involving Calycanthus chinensis, Calycanthus floridus, and Calycanthus occidentalis. Spreading branches draped in large lustrous dark green deciduous leaves that broadcast golden yellow hues for fall support her medium-sized stance. Distinguished by a central infusion of yellow and purple markings and a divine spicy fragrance, evoking strawberries and melons, the 4 in. wide, exquisite ivory Magnolia-like blooms unfurl from big creamy yellow buds primarily in spring, but sporadically throughout the growing season.
The first of the notable crosses of the 2 Sweetshrubs, 'Venus' has lovely ivory white magnolia like blossoms that have a delicate fruity fragrance, which adorn spreading branches primarily in late spring, but occasionally throughout the summer. Grows 5-6' tall and wide. 20-24" plants for spring shipping.
A hybrid of C. chinensis and C. 'Athens.' The white flowers have a purplish red blush in the center. We saw a large container plant this spring that was cantaloupe scented from C. 'Venus'. This fast grower will become a nice looking shrub 8'-10' tall.
If you miss your star magnolia throughout the year here is a shrub that can help. This early summer bloomer has creamy white blooms with numerous strap-like petals. These flowers have a strong fruity fragrance. Truly a goddess of beauty among plants!

Fragrant and floriferous, "Venus" produces an ivory bud that opens to a white magnolia-like blossom with a coy red blush inside. It blooms in summer on densely branched shrubs, 6'x 6'. This large beautiful flower will make you think you are vacationing in exotic climes. So much cheaper this way.
