Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The common lilac, Syringa vulgaris, is a beloved suckering shrub or small tree originally native to the Balkan peninsula now grown widely across Europe and North America. Lilacs are most famous for their beautiful flowers in shades of white, purple and pink and their characteristic, intense and beautiful fragrance. They are also extremely hardy. The internet says to zone 3 but my mother-in-law, Ramona, grew her lilac just fine in zone 1b Saskatchewan. 'Sensation' has warm purple flowers with white edges.

This lilac is absolutely beautiful. The normal size shrub will have purple flowers with a pretty lavender margin. This is one of the few lilacs we have listed.

A remarkable lilac which is very different and very beautiful, each gorgeous flower of rich deep-violet is perfectly edged with white, an incredible sight when arranged in dense pyramidal clusters; the mid-season (May) blooms are sweetly-fragrant and appear profusely on an 8-15' shrub; a wonderful plant as a centerpiece or as part of a mixed cutting garden, the flowers are stunning on the shrub or in a vase! Our most popular lilac. Exquisite single purple florets edged in white. The picotee edge is quite striking, and it is, well, sensational. Occasionally will sport white flowers.
