Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Red flowers with a dark red blotch and white anthers. 'Nova Zembla' is a vigorous plant and does well in sun or shade, plus it's an "ironclad" to boot.
Evergreen shrub with clusters of deep pink to red blooms in mid-season. Does best if exposed to sun for part of the day, and dappled shade to shade for the rest of the day.
A hybrid of our native R. catawbiense, 'Nova Zembla' is considered a hardy cultivar. Early spring flower buds are large and dramatic, and blooming occurs in late spring. The flower is one of the few 'red' colors you can find in rhododendrons.
Here is true hardiness in a red. A vigorous plant that has good foliage and will grow in more difficult areas. This hybrid exhibits some outstanding characteristics. Of course, hardiness tops the list. A nice looking contrast with other plants. Extremely showy, red flowers make a real display in the spring. ('Parson's Grandiflorum' x hardy red hybrid)
