Rhododendron aberconwayi is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with green foliage. In spring red and white flowers emerge. Features glossy texture. Attracts bees making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with mostly sun - mostly shade and even moisture - regular water. Does well in acidic, rich and well-drained soil.

Habit is open, upright, and rather loose, with deep green long, lance shaped leaves that are hard, thick and heavily textured. White, saucer shaped flowers that are a full 3" across, have many crimson spots, and are held in trusses of 6 to 12. (Subgenus Hymenthes, Subsect. Irrorata)

We haven't sold this fine species for 20+ years. R. aberconwayi is an upright grower to 6' and has deep, dark evergreen leaves that are very stiff. The white flowers will have some spots but are very flat shaped in April.
