A Missouri Botanical Garden 'Plant of Merit', this Native to the southeastern US is a compact, slow-growing, deciduous shrub with a dense, mounded, upright spreading habit. It's best feather is it's fragrant white flowers, nice summer foliage and superb Fall color of red, orange and yellow. The 1-2" long bottlebrush spikes of blooms are fragrant and appear in spring before the foliage.

The lowest growing of Fothergillas, 2-3' tall or up to 5', this form has 1" long white flower spikes and thimble-like flowers. The leaf is dark to almost blue-green, turning to yellow, orange and scarlet in the fall. It does well in partial shade, but the flowers and colors are best when planted in full sun with moist, well-drained, acidic soil.
