We have had this wonderful plant over the years. This very hardy deciduous daphne has golden margins on the narrow leaves. In April, the plant is covered with white flowers with a nice fragrance.
A beautiful plant in all seasons with very fragrant pale-pink flowers in spring and lovely variegated foliage.
Daphne x burkwoodii 'Carol Mackie' has variegated leaves with a thin golden yellow edge fading to creamy white. The fragrant white flowers appear in late spring and often intermittently through the summer and fall. Rich, well-drained soil in sun. Do not move after planting. Photo courtesy Great Plant Picks.
An extraordinarily hardy, variegated shrub with universal appeal. Easily grown, but fickle in its long-term persistence. Plant it near an entry door or by the kitchen window where the heady fragrance of its spring flowers will be most appreciated.
The most common daphne in the trade, by several orders of magnitude. Will grow to a good 3 or 4 foot shrub, with a bold, very showy gold variegated leaf margin. Flowers profusely in the spring, but does not rebloom. Old plants of this - and all xburkwoodii - tend to split open in an ungainly sprawl. One our customers reports that when that happens you can simply whack them back hard, and they'll reshoot and be nice and compact again for a few years.
Partially deciduous shrub with intensely fragrant, palest pink flowers opening from darker buds in spring and late summer. This selection is noted for its compact, erect growth to 4' with closely set narrow leaves and cream-colored foliar variegation along the margins. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Use at borders of shrubs or woodland edge. Prefers sun or light shade with moderate water. Hardy to below 0F. Garden origin.
A variegated form of a classic daphne with narrow, 1" leaves, sage-green edged in cream. These deciduous shrubs are dense enough to create a small hedge, to about 2-3 ft tall x 4 ft wide, covered with sweetly scented, white flowers, most profusely from late winter through early spring and occasionally year round. The custardy sweet fragrance makes it a perfect plant for the entrance garden. Best in part shade, possibly with mulch to keep the roots cool, and consistent summer water. Frost hardy to -30F, USDA zone 4.
This trim, aristocratic shrub has whorls of nearly evergreen, cream-edged foliage. It produces a heavy display of very fragrant, pale pink flowers in spring, and often again in the fall. It is adaptable and quick growing. shrub. Garden loam is good; does not like heavy fertilization. USDA zones 4a-9 (up to 9,000').
Clusters of wonderfully fragrant, light pink flowers appear in midspring, all but obscuring the gold-edged foliage. Very choice. Semi-evergreen in colder areas. Rounded habit. GPP award.
