From arching stems of handsome, variegated, parallel-veined leaves hang pendulous white ?bells? in late spring; wonderful low-maintenance in combination with ferns and astilbes in the shady garden. Sh-PSh/M
Small white, pendant flowers hang like tiny bells from graceful, arching stems in late spring on this shade loving perennial – leaves edges crisply in white; 16"-30" tall in moist, well drained , humusy soil – looks delicate…but quite tough & easy to grow!
Zn 4. Rich green leaves narrowly edged in white.
Marietta O'Byrne brought us a large clump of this handsome woodland perennial. The broad leaves have cream variegation. The plants are 18”-24” tall.
Variegated Solomon's seal is a conversation piece and a solid grower throughout its hardiness zones (zones 3-8). The variegated leaves will likely become some of your favorite in the garden, plus they often turn yellow in the fall for a final show (fall color on an herbaceous perennial is unusual). When you show your friends the petite flowers that dangle under the arching stems, you'll enjoy their reactions. It's a unique herbaceous perennial and very reliable. Polygonatum odoratum Variegatum grows by shallow spreading roots that will fill in an area. For example, we planted one with 2 arching stems in April 2017 that just sat there all summer doing nothing. Spring 2018 we wake up to 7 arching shoots! That's triple its size in a year.

16" tall gracefully arching stems are purple-red and hold alternate, very pretty white-edged leaves. Pendulous, white, double bells tipped with light green hang like earrings from each leaf axil along the length of the stem. Bloom time is April and May. This is the very meaning of the word elegant! It deserves a special place in the shade garden. Nicely colonizing, it is not invasive. Minimum temperature: -20 °F
Soft green leaves with creamy white margins. White bell shaped flowers in spring. 24 - 30" tall.

I believe this is 2004 perennial of the year, and by all accounts, a fantastic plant but horribly intertwined with the following, which is itself confused (odoratum is European and falcatum is Japanese). All are edged variegates, please buy some of each and let us know if you manage to definitively key them out, personally I am beginning to suspect they are all hybrids. ZONE 4
Arching reddish stems bear bright green foliage with a white border. Creamy bell-shaped flowers beneath the foliage. One of the best architectural plants for the shade garden!? Perennial Plant Association plant of the year 2013.
One of our favorite variegated plants. Foliage looks so perfect it could be fake. Splendid for shady spots. Grows about 24" tall and wide.

Blooms: spring-summer, creamy white w/ green, blue fruit/ creamy white margined foliage/ Solomon's Seal Zone 5-9. 3', Japan, part shade-shade, moist, well drained
I would have to say that this is one of the best all around plants for the shade garden. Pairs of white bells dangle along arching 18" stems in May. The foliage appears to have been dipped in white paint, and brightens up the shade all season. Tolerates drier soil.
Solomon's Seal. This is a nice perennial for the shade garden with gently arching stems whose green leaves are marked in a creamy variegation. Paired white bell shaped flowers dangle beneath the stems. Makes a nice grove of stems over time and can easily be divided. Tolerant of some dry.
This stalwart of the shade garden bears leaves with pure-white streaks painted along the margins, on unbranched, arching stems. Creamy bell-shaped flowers appear in pairs below the stems in midspring. Plants creep slowly to form a thick patch. Attractive, distinctive, and (once established) very drought tolerant. AGM winner.
