This hybrid has bell-shaped flowers with 5 wavy edged lobes of heavy substance. The moderate purplish red buds open very light purple with narrow edging of vivid violet with a dark purple spot at base of throat and slight spotting near base of upper lobe. The ball shaped trusses are about 5" around, holding 22-24 moderately floriferous flowers. The dark green leaves are 8" long and 2" wide, with felt like hairy coating below. (niveum x rex)

A Rhododendron nivium hybrid, so it has a rich purple flower in spring. The foliage is 12" long, dark green, with tan to light brown indumentum.
