This local rhododendron is a cross of R. Elizabeth x R. strigillosum.. Our 40+ year old is 5'x8' and has deep green leaves with some what hairy stems. The flowers are rich red and look waxy.
Trusses of bright, blood-red flowers with a waxy-like substance and pale yellow anthers sit atop long, narrow olive-green leaves. New growth is reddish-bronze and they retain an orange-brown indumentum on the underside.
Flowers of heavy waxy like substance are bright, fiery blood-red. They cover the olive-green leaves early each spring. The textured leaves have a light, orange-brown indumentum on the under side, heavy on the midrib. New growth is reddish-bronze. (strigillosum x Elizabeth Group)
