Spring brings strong purple-red, funnel shaped flowers which hang in wide ball trusses. Certainly the magic to this rhododendron though rests in its foliage. A heavy coating of cinnamon-colored tomentum covers the leaves and stems and lasts longer then the flowers. When it wears off it reveals glossy, dark green leaves with prominent veining. To top it off it forms a dense shrub with overlapping leaves. Truly a plant for all seasons.
