The most unique feature of this plant is the foliage. Recurved, glossy leaves in dense rosettes cover the plant. Mid-sized trusses are purple.
This evergreen shrub has dark green, convex leaves (unlike any other rhododendron), in tight rosettes. Flowers are purple with an indistinct yellow blotch, arranged in small pompom clusters. Blooms in late midseason, and prefers protection from the sun in summer.
Purple flowers spring, glossy leaves have curled edges. Evergreen. Likes humusy soil, regular water. Zones 6-8 (H2).
With foliage unlike any other rhododendron, this hybrid evokes curiosity and surprise from visitors. Rolled, glossy leaves are tightly spaced on the stems of this dense mound. Prolific pom-pom trusses are purple. (ponticum selection or cross)

Unusual foliage sets this cultivar apart. The glossy dark green leaves appear in whorls, and their margins are curled under, much like a pittosporum. You won't know for sure this is a rhododendron until the abundant purple flowers open. Late-midseason bloom.
