Eared Lady Fern- Has medium green fronds with darker stems. A pretty subtle deciduous fern for the woodland garden.
Ghostly lemony-lime new fronds (2-3') deepen to a muted grey-green on a purplish-red stem. Sh-PSh/M
Intriguing and elegant fern with pale green fronds supported by glowing red stems is a real specimen in the woodland garden! Clump is 1-2’ high and wide and prefers rich, moist well-drained soil (but will settle for less as long as drainage is decent). New fronds are very light lime, creating a two toned effect. Winter deciduous.
The butterfly weed is a bushy perennial with vivid orange, red and yellow flowers that bloom reliability throughout the summer months and sometimes into early autumn. It has an upright clump form with slender green leaves and flat-top clusters of flowers at the end of stems. Fruit forms after flowering.
Athyrium otophorum, or Auriculate Lady Fern, features glossy, silver green fronds on dark red stems, adding elegant texture to shady garden areas. New foliage is a rich golden-green color. This deciduous variety is deer resistant. Ferns thrive in neutral to acidic, loose, richly organic soil. Auriculate Lady Fern is excellent for mass plantings, rock gardens, containers, in woodlands and naturalized landscapes.
An underutilized and lovely fern that emerges with fresh lime green foliage accented with raspberry mid rib, it deepens to a medium green as the foliage matures. Semi evergreen in milder climates, this clump forming fern is a plant for moisture retentive soil. Grows 1' tall to 2' wide.
Perhaps my favourite fern: the triangular fronds have red stems (stipes) and emerge with tightly furled, red-flushed foliage which turns to pale yellow-green (almost gold) and eventually to light green. An outstanding specimen plant for the front of the shade border or the woodland garden.
This remarkable fern is a conversation piece w/ its unusual frond coloring that makes a dramatic addition to the garden. Its short fronds are triangular, flat & pale green & the young fronds have maroon brown rachis (stems) & stipes. Plant in afternoon to full shade. 12-18 inches tall. Zones 5 to 9, Semi-evergreen.
Very attractive fern with red stems. Beautiful texture. Deciduous.
Deciduous. Native to SE Asia, this fern has fairly broad, deltoid fronds with dark green segments and reddish to purplish stems. Prefers shady locations with humus rich soil.
