Libertia ixioides ‘Goldfinger’ is a tuft-forming, evergreen perennial with long, narrow green blades, striped lengthwise with a broad band of golden-yellow. Small white flowers are followed by yellow fruit. Grow in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil with average water. In cooler climates, may benefit from winter protection with a dry mulch. New Zealand Iris is great in mixed borders, containers and rock gardens.
One of the brightest, with cascading, gold-orange foliage on a clumping, garden accent, to about 18?? x 18??. White star-like flowers appear in clusters mid-spring, producing large yellow berries for fall. These New Zealand natives prefer sun to part shade and rich, moist, well-drained soil but tolerate some summer drought once established. Easily frost hardy in USDA zone 8 and reported to tolerate temperatures as low as 0F.
Libertia ixioides 'Goldfinger' forms stiff, upright, evergreen, grass-like tufts of golden yellow or old gold coloured foliage striped faintly with green resembling a miniature New Zealand flax for a high impact display. It resembles L. perigrinans but is more gold than orange. The best foliage colour occurs in full sun. Small, white flowers appear intermittently from mid spring into summer. A great plant for regions with cool summers and mild winters.
Like golden flames leaping from a fire the leaves of this Libertia add zest to any combination. White flowers on compact spiky plants. 16" tall and wide.
The vibrant golden color and small size combine beautifully with ornamental grasses, flax, and phormiums. Moist, fertile soils. Full sun to light shade. Compact clumping habit 1.5' x 1.5'.
