Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Libertia perigrinans is valued for its richly coloured orangey-infused, erect, iris-like foliage that is especially pretty backlit by the sun. The foliage is evergreen, or everorange, and looks great 365 days a year. The small white flowers appear intermittently and are lightly fragrant. The orange colouration in the leaves is more intense when plants are stressed so don’t baby them. Give them lean, well-drained soil in sun.

I lust for COPPER in the plant world!! This spiky character has swords to 12-14" tall with a copper twinge that really lights up like a new penny during the colder months! Evergreen foliage has a stiletto silhouette, clump expands on rhizomes – Full sun to a bit of shade – most soils – not fussy – Airy little clusters of white flowers in May – This is also quite a specimen in a copper color container! A New Zealander that seems quite content here in the PNW.

Variable variegated foliage, leaf margin is medium to light gold, the center of the leaf is medium to light green with white streaking and a darker green is then overlain creating a misted appearance. Pale purple flowers in July on 18" scapes

A perennial herb related to the iris that spreads slowly by short rhizomes. The stiff, sword-like leaves grow to 2' tall and are an unusual orange-green color with conspicuous orange-brown veins; they are particularly attractive when backlit as they appear to glow in warm, fiery tones. Small white flowers appear on short stalks tucked among the foliage in spring. Plant in sun or moderate shade, with moist but well-drained, slightly acid soil. Well placed at poolsides, as an accent plant, or in containers. Hardy to 15 °F. New Zealand.

An iris relative with evergreen, stiff, leathery foliage and an orange band in the middle, turning all coppery-orange in winter. Sprays of 1" flowers are a bonus. Creeping but easily maintained. Very colorful!

Evergreen or in this case everorange stiff blades which complement the starry white flowers in late spring makes this New Zealander an invaluable addition to the garden.
