Brilliant burgundy foliage and purple pineapple-like flowers adorn this tough, beautiful and very different plant (to 2' x 3'). S-PSh/M
Strapping, upright brilliant burgundy foliage and creamy plum pineapple lily blossoms on 2' stalks in summer. 'Oakhurst' forms ever expanding bulbs and offsets and is wintering over well in our zone 6 in gardens. Provide a well drained soil that has a nice protect mulch. (We had a mulch of snow last winter, and all of ours came back!) . If you don't want to chance it in the ground it makes a great container specimen as well, and is easy to store as dormant bulbs.
This selection of Pineapple Lily rivals 'Sparkling Burgundy' for color and in some minds surpasses it. Rich maroon purple foliage and tall long-lasting Dr. Seuss flowers similarly colored like an elongated fantastical pineapple. They say it makes a wonderful cut flower but we can't bear to try.
Strapping, upright brilliant burgundy foliage and purple, pineapple-like flowers adorn the plant. Originally found in a San Diego Nursery, this deep-purple leafed novelty has loved blazing sun there for nearly 20 years. We were totally amazed to see plants in an Indianapolis garden not only thriving, but actually reseeding! Wow! It has a stately and exotic look and it combines well in mixed containers. Also, it lasts an amazing 21 days as a cut flower!
Dark leaved pineapple lily that holds its reddish purple color late into the season. To 1-3 ft tall, the leaves forming tropical looking clumps, with late summer flowers, pink florets topped with a crown of bracts, atop an 18" flower stalk. Rich, well-drained soil, in any sunny location that does not collect too much water in the winter. Frost hardy into USDA zone 7, colder with mulch. This wonderful plant adds a dramatic punch to the mixed border or potted plant collection.
