Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Eucomis bicolor has a large flower spike of pale green edged with purple, borne 12 to 24 inches tall on purple-speckled stout stems. The tuft of small green leaves at the top makes the flower cluster resemble a pineapple. A particularly hefty Eucomis; summer bloomer. Ships when dormant. Minimum temperature: 0°F
Pineapple lilies are unique, striking bulbs with lush, strap-like foliage held like a broad, open vase. Out of this vase emerges a leafless flower stalk bare on the bottom half and on the top half covered in hundreds of star-like lily flowers. At the top of the flower stalk grows a tuft of leaf-like bracts. The look is very much like a pineapple. E. bicolor has greenish white flowers with the petals edged in purple.
Anchored by lustrous, undulating light green leaves, maroon-flecked green stems elevate the intriguing purple-edged, pale green blooms. A tuft of verdant leaves crests each flowering raceme. Its smaller profile and out-of-the-ordinary coloration makes it an exemplary choice for a blue glazed vessel in a well traveled spot.
Eucomis reichenbachii is a rarely offered species from this amazing group of plants often refereed to as the pineapple lily. The foliage is thick green strip like leaves held in a star shape from the center bulb. The flowers are held 1 to 2 feet high with clusters of white flowers with maroon edged petals under a pineapple like top. Most species are hardy to zone 6 if slightly mulched and they often remind me of the northern man's bromeliad for the garden. A great plant this species is not often seen in collections and plants were grown from seed. I have only a limited number available this season Foliage: large strap like foliage grown from a center bulb in a star like pattern Flowers: held 1 to 2 feet white flowers in clusters Height: terrestrial 1 to 2 feet
Pineapple Lily. This is and showy and easily grown bulb provided you mulch it in the winter. Wide fleshy succulent green leaves with maroon speckled stems are a fine understudy to the lead role assumed by the similarly flecked flower stem holding long lasting maroon edged green flowers with leafy topknot in summer.
An unusual & RARELY AVAILABLE “Pineapple Lily”, this large bulb from South Africa has interestingly purple-edged green flowers. Stout in stature, the stems rise to a foot above the thick, fleshy leaves. The vast majority of the members of the genus Eucomis are from summer rainfall areas, & this species is said to be hardy, but little information is available on its cultivation, as it’s not very common in cultivation. However, as unusual as it is, Eucomis are pretty much all easy & reliable bulbs, returning better every year after their winter dormancy. They are easily grown in part sun, & can even be planted amongst the roots of trees. Their flowers have long lasting ornamental value, as they persist over a long period & stay attractive even while setting seed! Bear in mind that too much sun can burn the leaves.
Bak. Similar to Erythrina lanata ssp. occidentalis but with spotted flower stock, green flowers and crisped leave margins. Hardy if mulched. Wavy green leaves with some purple striping, light yellow flowers to 20" high.
