A red-spined selection of this hardy and diverse species, a natural hybrid of A. neomexicana and A. lecheguilla from West Texas, New Mexico and Chihuahua, Mexico. These have narrow green to gray-green leaves with curved spines along the sides and a sturdy, sharp tip, very red in this form. Rosettes reach 12-18” tall x 18” wide and remain solitary, rarely offsetting. Best in lean, well-drained soil with occasional summer water for best growth and appearance. Frost hardy to at least –20F, USDA zone 5 and possibly lower.
