Zn 7. Blue-green leaves. Spiny.
The current best chance for a hardy agave in Vancouver is this Yucca Do Nursery selection. Hailing from moist mountain sides at high elevations in northeast Mexico, A. montana commonly experiences mist, rain, frost and snow in the winter months. It grows to a two feet tall by three feet wide with broad, glaucous leaves, each ending in a large black spine. The stunning silvery bud imprints on the leaf backs are reminiscent of cut crystal. Provide good drainage. Larger plants will be hardier.
A superb collection of this hardy Agave by Yucca Do Nursery from sw Nuevo Leon Mexico at 9000'. The dusky gray color and fabulous pattern of bud imprints on the leaves reminded them of Baccarat Crystal. They are doing good. Our selection would have been Agave 'Mason Jar'.
A selection by Yucca Do Nursery, from high elevations in Mexico’s Nuevo León Province, named after a fine crystal because of the leaf imprints on the backs of glaucous leaves that end in spiny black tips - very dramatic. Forms striking clumps to 2 ft tall x 3 ft wide. Sun, lean soil, and good drainage. Frost hardy in upper USDA zone 7.
From higher elevations (9000 ft.) in southwestern Nuevo Leon, 'Baccrat' has shown itself to be quite adaptable to hot summers and wet, cold winters. The cultivar name 'Baccarat' was given to this plant because because the bud imprinting and coloration on the leaves is reminiscent of a bowl of fine cut Baccarat Crystal. Reportedly hardy to 0° F.

Found in Nuevo Leon province in Mexico by the guys at Yucca Do Nursery. This 3’ x 2’ agave has blue green leaves with the imprint of the leaf above it making a pretty pattern. If kept dry-ish in the winter, it will survive 15° F in containers.
