This beautiful relative of the more common A. manzanita, from coastal California, often growing under the shade of various oaks and maintaining its integrity very well. 10 ft +, the form can be tree-like, reaching 15 ft or more, with pleasing blue leaves, dark red bark, and cheery pink flowers in early December. Almost as easy in cultivation as A. manzanita, with sun to part shade and decent drainage. Even accepts some carefully applied summer garden water. Frost hardy to 0F, USDA zone 7.
