Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The Black Madeira fig is a much sought after, premium fruiting quality fig that was originally identified on the island of Madeira in Portugal. Similar to the famed Italian fig variety ‘Figo Preto’, Black Madeira figs have dark skinned, and dark fleshed fruit with high sugar content and a prominent berry flavor. With a thick, syrupy texture, these figs are best enjoyed at the peak of ripeness. Our plants are cutting grown from material that we’ve imported from Madeira, Portugal ourselves. Very limited supply! Once they’re sold out for the season they will not be available again until spring 2021. Cold hardy to USDA zone 7b and above, or to 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
