Rhododendron austrinum 'Escatawpa' is a broadleaf deciduous shrub with green foliage. In spring apricot and yellow flowers emerge. Attracts bees, beneficial insects, butterflies and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with mostly sun - mostly shade and regular water. Still one of the best of the yellow deciduous native azaleas, Escatawpa is vigorous selection of the native Florida Flame Azalea producing nice rich yellow clusters of wonderfully fragrant flowers that emerge from dark gold and orange buds. With its hardy disposition and excellent vigor, Escatawpa was used by the Dodd's as one of the parents of their heat tolerant Confederate series azaleas.
