Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This rare and attractive shrub is only found growing in small areas of California from the Sierra Mountains to Baja. Handsome and drought resistant, this 1-6' slow-growing, thicket forming shrub has decorative, gray-green, spiny leaves. Bright clusters of cheerful yellow flowers in spring become dark-blue edible (tart!) berries. This makes an excellent shrub for xeriscape and bird gardens. S/M-D
