Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Poor Scabiosa! Hampered with such an unpleasant name, I prefer its common name “Pincushion Flower”. A much loved cottage garden favorite, these “Florist’s” varieties are bred to have larger 2” “pinned” spherical flowers and longer stems perfect-o for flower arranging. A new color for us and we are charmed – the blooms begin as raspberry-pink, shifting with time to soft pink so you get a multi-hued effect. To 3’ x 20” with loads of blooms for months from Summer into Fall, especially with deadheading. Bee and butterfly magnet! Rich, loamy, well-drained soil a must. Self-sows! Drought tolerant once established. Makes a rewarding annual in areas where it’s not hardy.
