Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Fabulous ‘Xera Nursery’ introduction with crazy long, arching stems dripping with hops like bracted purple flowers in summer. Over a wall, a pot rim or spilling out of a basket…for full sun in well-drained soil, water when dry. Also nice in arrangements.
This chance hybrid from the folks at Xera Plants Inc. has the same dazzling flowers but 4” long!! The cascading flowers almost resemble hops more than they do an oregano! In summer, a multitude of stems emerge bearing clusters of elongated tiny violet flowers that protrude from open, pale-lime bracts. Taking on purple and blue tints, they continue to dangle like little pagodas till they’ve reached that eye-popping length. Like that Beatles song “I’ll follow the Sun”, this Oregano will bloom long into the fall if there’s sun and warmth. This perennial beauty also features fragrant bluish foliage to perfectly complement the flowers. Plant in sun in well-drained soil. Can tough out poor soils but will bloom longer with a fertile mix. Great for cascading over low walls, for use as a ground cover or spilling out of a hanging basket or decorative patio container. Combine with other herbs or offset with grasses or succulents. Very drought tolerant once established. To 12” tall, though likely much shorter, and up to 2’ wide in its first year. Cut back old growth in late winter; new growth will soon follow. Hardy to -5 degrees F.
