This unusual Naked Lady (Amaryllis belladonna) relation coincides bloom with the first autumn rains… pretty nickel sized, funnel shaped flowers on 8” stems are yellow orange with dark centers, petals netted with copper tones. Grassy foliage follows bloom and usually disappears by late spring. Plants need no supplemental watering. Full sun and good drainage are key, perfect for the rock garden and fun to grow in pots. Position bulbs just below the surface. Offsets freely where happy.
Six to twelve inch golden-yellow lily flowers with coppery-orange exteriors and throats appear after rains in late summer and fall. Plant a swath to enjoy this Texan's golden show. (It does also grow in other areas in and around the Caribbean.) Thick, narrow, and glossy lily leaves emerge after the flowers are finished. Minimum temperature: 0 °F
(Syn H, tubispathus, H. texanus) Large, yellow flowers flushed with bronze, on delicate stems with grass-like foliage. Like the rest of the genus, tends to bloom after rain. Not hardy, probably only zone 8, but very easy to grow in pots in the North. Simply let them dry out in the fall, they'll go completely dormant, and you can store the pots in a cool spot like a garage or basement. Bring them out and water them in the spring, and they'll come back to life.
