Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The fabled common or English bluebell is much beloved in the UK for forming carpets of blue in "bluebell woods" across the country. It differs from the more commonly-grown Spanish bluebell (H. hispanica) by having an arching rather than upright stem, darker blue flowers with more recurved petal tips, and a beautiful fragrance. 'Alba' is an elegant and rare pure white selection. H. hispanica and H. non-scripta readily hybridize so if you have both in your garden, don't allow them to set seed unless you want the hybrids.
