20 - 40' tall and wide, the Dove Tree blooms from April to May with a breathtaking inflorescence composed of a small reddish button, the flower, and long pure white bracts. Among its other appellations are: Laundry Tree, Ghost Tree, Handkerchief Tree, depending upon locale. Its namesake is Abbe Armand David, a Frenchman in southwestern China in the last part of the 19th c., who first collected this spectacular tree. The fall color can be variable from colorful to pale.
