Nursery contributed plant descriptions

An interesting and magnificent cultivar selected for its propensity to produce wonderful white "handkerchief" bracts at a very early age (only 2 years as opposed to 20!). This elegant 20-40' tree provides four-season interest; spectacular in early summer when in bloom, pretty in summer with its lush leaves. Autumn brings somewhat variable fall color. Stunning again in winter with its cinnamon colored bark; a truly remarkable tree. S-PSh/M
This flowering dove tree came from Sonoma Horticultural Nursery. The original tree had exceptional bracts and luckily the owners got it out into the nursery business. Bracts are 8’-10" long and the grafted plants will bloom at 18 inches tall. Any of the plants we are selling can bloom next May. Because of the grafting and scarcity, these plants are limited and high priced.
Selected for its huge white bracts reaching 8-10 inches wide. These grafted plants consistently begin blooming in the first few years. A vast improvement over the species.
Selected in CA many years ago this is a precocious bloomer that has larger bracts than most seedlings. It will be a large tree over time and will never fail to immpress your friends and enemies when in blossom.
Large 7" white handkerchief like bracts, late spring, cinnamon colored bark. USDA Zones 6-9
Dove Tree or Handkerchief tree is at its most spectacular in the late spring when the white bracts attending the seeds hang on the tree--like handkerchiefs. The tree will easily reach 35'. The problem with the Dove Tree is that until a few years ago, there were no cultivars available and the seedling took 20 years to flower. Now with Sonoma, we have a Dove Tree that will flower in the second year. zone 6
Fast-growing with a broad pyramidal outline and dense symmetrical branching. Blooms earlier in the year and younger than the species. Leaves are even darker and larger than the species with good heat tolerance. Grows 40-50' tall with a 25-30' spread.
