Plectranthus aegyptiacus is a semi-evergreen cactus / succulent with green foliage. In summer lavender flowers emerge. Grows well with sun - bright shade and occasional - low water. Does well in average, gritty and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant.
This member of the mint family has outstanding tolerance to so many conditions. I've grown it in a boggy, shady spot, a dry, miserable sandy spot, clay pots in the sun, plastic pots in the shade...it's a remarkable plant and just grows and grows like crazy.
Thus, controlling it into a bonsai form was an outrageous feat but it can be done!
Leaves are fuzzy and highly aromatic, and flowers are lavender colored on tall, hollyhock-like stacks. Feed and water this sparingly, or it will break out of the bonsai form. Keep the wild bits pruned. This is the most unique bonsai I've ever seen in regards to the species chosen.
