Bergenia ciliata ‘Dumbo’, sometimes called Pig Squeak, is an evergreen perennial with round, thick, glossy dark green foliage that blushes a lovely pink in winter. Attractive white to pale pink flowers bloom on upright stems in the spring. Prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Heartleaf Bergenia is good in borders, edgings, mass plantings, rock gardens, and as a groundcover.

Huge, rounded, supple leaves with a furry surface (ciliata) surround short red stalks with clusters of soft pink flowers, each containing a spritz of beautifully protruding white-anthered red stamens — a distinctive feature of this flower.
