Nursery contributed plant descriptions

From John Boggan, B. 'Early Bird', a cross between B. grandis and B. grandis (syn. sinensis) 'Shaanxi White' grows a bit smaller than typical B. grandis; leaves are a bright lime green (almost chartreuse); flowers are pale pink and it starts to bloom several weeks earlier than B. grandis (hence the name). Best in full (bright) shade. Culture & hardiness are same as B. grandis and it has the same colonizing tendencies. I think the foliage color is the best thing about it. --John Boggan Minimum temperature: -10°F
