Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Native to the Caribbean, but naturalized throughout the Southern US. A favorite xeriscaping plant here in Arizona. Not only are its flowers glorious, but its leaves are delicate and ferny. In frost free areas it will become a small tree. Top hardy to 30 degrees. It will often re-grow in the spring from its roots here in zone 8. For sale are plants 3 to 5 inches tall in 2" pots.
8-14" spiked clusters of up to 40 pinkish-red ball-like buds open to yellow butterfly-like blooms, then fade to a deep orange and gold, and finally turning to a deep reddish-orange. This large growing shrubby perennial makes a fantastic show throughout summer. Give it plenty of room and a rich fertile soil.Note: Caesalpinias have a tendency to drop their foliage during shipment. So long as they are provided with light and appropriate moisture upon receipt they should recover and begin to grow fairly quickly.
