Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This is the common “ledum” (that genus has, of course, been “sunk” into Rhododendron ) in the boreal and alpine habitats of northern North America. A striking and distinct little shrublet, often prostrate or only inches high in its native habitats. Very narrow, almost rosemary-like foliage with a brownish indumentum coating the lower surface as well as the stems. Small, rounded inflorescences of white flowers. Surprisingly easy to grow given good drainage and light. Very slow growing, perfect in a trough or rock garden. Grown from seed collected in Alaska by Clarice Clark – many of these appear to be intermediates with R. groenlandicum which is also known from this region.
