    This diminutive cutie is one of the smallest bamboos of all, creating a compact 1-2' tall clump of vigorous upright canes, its dark-green evergreen leaves fan out in groups of 5 or so, making them look very much like little palm leaves or fern fronds, its relatively small leaves also make it well suited for bonsai; this is a running Bamboo and so is best kept in a container or restricted with a underground barrier.     (plee-o-blast-us DIS-tie-kus) This is one of the smallest, running bamboos available. The leaves fan out in groups creating a look very similar to little palm or fern leaves. It is a little hardier than P. pygmaeus. Can be made into a shade-tolerant lawn by repeatedly mowing with the mower raised to 4 inches or higher or used as a robust ground cover or erosion control measure.

    A cold hardy bamboo good to -5 °F. Disticha is a dense, attractive and low growing Japanese running bamboo. Dwarf fern leaf grows about 4 feet in semi-shade and to about 2 feet in height in full sun. It makes an extremely good ground cover.
