Liriope muscari 'Big Blue' is an easy care, evergreen lilyturf with lush clumps of dark green, grass-like foliage that can slowly expand via short stolons but are not invasive. Tall spikes of tightly packed, lavender purple flowers rise within and above the foliage in late summer. Shiny black berries persist into winter. Tolerant of most soil types, heat and humidity. Versatile in the garden adding colour and lush texture. Use as a mass-planted ground cover, lawn alternative for very low foot traffic areas, for erosion control on slopes, in mass plantings, along pathways, at the edge of borders, in containers, and as cut flowers. Popular with many pollinators. Deer resistant.

Lilyturf is a fabulous, low-maintenance groundcover which can thrive in even the most challenging sites. This pretty perennial can tolerate a wide range of conditions from full sun to shade, clay to sand, and wet or dry sites. The late-summer spikes of lavender-violet blooms contrast beautifully with the deep green, curving foliage. Absolutely beautiful when planted en masse and provides excellent erosion control. Liriope dies back as a perennial in cooler climates and stays evergreen in warmer southern climates. The genus honors Liriope, a woodland nymph and the mother of Narcissus. S-Sh/W-D

This group gets its name from greek, leiron, which means lily or in gree mythology, after liriope, a fountain nymph & mother of narcissus. These plants as a group are very adaptable to a wide range of exposures, soil conditions, and climates. They can tolerate excess moisture or severe drought and many adverse situations where nothing else would survive. Considering these attributes along with their diversity of textures, growth habits, colors, and extremely low maintenance requirements, there is little wonder that liriope is one of the most popular groundcovers on the planet. Native to Japan, China.
