Thanks to our horticultural friend, Barry Glick, we are happy to introduce his new Bergenia 'Sunfur.' Barry calls it 'a hardy African Violet on steroids." The leaves have a similar appearance to an African Violet even being somewhat 'furry." In the early spring, spikes of pink and white flowers arise from the center of the plant and create a sensational floral show. It makes an exceptional indoor container plant since it blooms during the early spring, usually March to April depending on your zone. This vigorous plant only reaches 6-12" tall and it's a welcome addition to flower gardens or containers. Native to the high peaks of the Himalayas, it's one of the earliest blooming, hardy plants in the spring garden. It's certainly worth testing in zone 4 with added winter protection. Besides its many features, it's also deer-and-rabbit proof in the garden.
