Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This exciting new variety of “Shrimp Plant” offers up golden yellow bracts with a touch of green, from which inch long, two-lipped pinkish-red flowers emerge in late Spring. An endless stream of these flowering bracts rise up above 2’ tall plants that feature 2” dark green oval leaves. This plant always seems to be in bloom, a bonus for the bees and hummingbirds that flock to the flowers. This Justicia likes the sun a bit more than some species, only needing relief from extreme heat. It can also be happy with half day Sun. Regular water will prolong blooming, though plants can tough out drier conditions. Given its modest size and fantastic color, this shrimp plant is great for containers, on a deck, anywhere you can show off its dazzling display. Likes fertile well-drained soil but can adapt to less ideal conditions. Hardy to 28° F, evergreen above 40° F.

A charming addition for any sunny to partly sunny exposure, its golden lime-colored bracts, accented by bright red flowers, crown this upright grower in a never-ending display. As easy to grow as any in this genus, it tops the list as a free bloomer. Use it to brighten south, east or west exposures. Makes a nice potted container for the summer garden.
