    Acorus gramineus 'Minimus Aureus' plant details

    Such a cute, cheerful peek of gold foliage along the edges of borders or containers. Especially smashing when paired with dark leaved plants for strong contrast. Just a wee thing a few inches high, the bright gold foliage takes some light foot traffic and emits a sweet scent when walked on. It has a grassy appearance but is a true perennial that is happy in shade. It can grow pondside with wet feet, but is also happy in regular garden soil with regular watering.

    Acorus gramineus 'Minimus Aureus' is a slow-growing evergreen perennial groundcover aquatic grass (or grassy in appearance) with chartreuse and gold foliage. In fall and summer flowers emerge. Features grassy texture. Grows well with mostly sun - shade and standing water - regular water. Adapts to various soil conditions. Does well in acidic, average, clay, rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant, humidity tolerant and verticillium wilt resistant.

    Acorus gramineus ‘Minimus Aureus’ displays graceful, fan-shaped clumps of yellow, grass-like foliage. Leaves give off a sweet fragrance when disturbed. Grows best in moist to boggy soils.     This sweet flag from Japan has tilted fans of linear, gold foliage that slowly spreads to form finely-textured mats. Tiny, insignificant, yellow-green flowers bloom on lateral, sedge-like spikes. Flowers give way to very tiny, reddish, fleshy berries. Best grown in evenly moist soil or as a marginal plant in ponds.

    One of those plants that should be in every garden center but is mysteriously uncommon in the trade. It is that most useful of plants that grows happily in shade but looks like a grass. In this case, a wonderful bright yellow grass, and a a dwarf one at that, less than six inches tall so it even looks like well maintained grass. Like all Acorus, happiest when grown on the wet side, but doesn't seem to be terribly picky. Spreads by rhizomes to form a ground cover, though it hasn't made a weed of itself yet. Great combined with blue Hostas, and I especially love it combined with black leaved Ophiopogon. Zone 5
