Acorus gramineus 'Minimus Aureus' plant details

Such a cute, cheerful peek of gold foliage along the edges of borders or containers. Especially smashing when paired with dark leaved plants for strong contrast. Just a wee thing a few inches high, the bright gold foliage takes some light foot traffic and emits a sweet scent when walked on. It has a grassy appearance but is a true perennial that is happy in shade. It can grow pondside with wet feet, but is also happy in regular garden soil with regular watering.

This sweet flag from Japan has tilted fans of linear, gold foliage that slowly spreads to form finely-textured mats. Tiny, insignificant, yellow-green flowers bloom on lateral, sedge-like spikes. Flowers give way to very tiny, reddish, fleshy berries. Best grown in evenly moist soil or as a marginal plant in ponds.

Acorus gramineus ‘Minimus Aureus’ displays graceful, fan-shaped clumps of yellow, grass-like foliage. Leaves give off a sweet fragrance when disturbed. Grows best in moist to boggy soils. Makes a great accent plant in mixed borders. Plant Miniature Sweet Flag near walkways in order to enjoy the sweet fragrance. Tolerates varying amounts of foot traffic.

An iddy biddy selection of the popular pond side, marginal and bog plant that will actually do well in an average mulched garden soil. Only gets about 3"-6" tall.

Zones: 5-10. Tiny 3-6 inch Iris-like fan shaped plant with light green-gold foliage in spring turning to brilliant gold in summer. Photo shows almost neon color on cloudy fall day. LiveScale© choice for mini waterside or bog. Excellent as Bonsai companion plant.

Its name is bigger than this short 2-3” tall evergreen perennial with tight tufts of bright yellow, grassy leaves that form a slowly spreading clump; leaves and roots have a wonderful sweet scent. Likes moist soil and full sun to light shade (can be grown as ban aquatic submerged at the edge of the water too!). Z5

One of those plants that should be in every garden center but is mysteriously uncommon in the trade. It is that most useful of plants that grows happily in shade but looks like a grass. In this case, a wonderful bright yellow grass, and a a dwarf one at that, less than six inches tall so it even looks like well maintained grass. Like all Acorus, happiest when grown on the wet side, but doesn't seem to be terribly picky. Spreads by rhizomes to form a ground cover, though it hasn't made a weed of itself yet. Great combined with blue Hostas, and I especially love it combined with black leaved Ophiopogon. Zone 5
