Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Chili-pepper-red sombreros with a pom-pom on top make this compact, well-branched 24" perennial a bright-light in border or vase over all three!! summer months. S/M/GDr PPAF
Echinacea Sombrero® Salsa Red displays single rows of drooping, deep orange-red ray petals around a sombrero-shaped, orange-brown cone. The lightly fragrant flowers attract butterflies! Provides long lasting color in the garden. Coneflower is easy to grow in any well-drained soil. It requires little water once established. Plant in mixed borders, cutting gardens and mass plantings. Deadhead regularly, but leave last flower heads for birds.
We've heard a few reports that this compact zesty coneflower has staying power in the garden. Bred to grow 18-24" tall, it bursts into bloom mid summer with bright orange red daisies. Grow in well drained soil in full sun. Favored by butterflies and bees, and rabbits are not fond of it.
I saw this plant in flower a year before its release and the flowers are likely the best true red yet offered from the hybrid coneflowers. The colour is not deep orange, not a hot orange-red but actually almost borders on a cool blue-red. Very floriferous, rich, deep red colour. The Sombrero Series offers well-branched, dwarf plants which produce lots of flowers. Echinacea in coastal BC should be planted in hot, dry, sunny spots with thin, average to poor soils for best overwintering.
