'Chocolate Shogun' has some of the darkest foliage of any Astilbe. The chocolate burgundy leaves emerge in spring and keep this rich colouration throughout the season. In summer it produces plume-like, slightly pendulous flower stalks covered in pink flowers. It can grow in full sun conditions as long as the soil remains moist.

This astilbe has rich chocolate purple foliage all season. The flowers are inconsequential. It's all about the rich purple foliage.

New and ultra COOL! Dramatic, leafy mounds of bronzy purple foliage add zing all season and for extra added YUM, 30” blush pink plumes wave above the foliage in late spring! Well behaved clumps about 2’ wide thrive in moist, rich soils in the lightly shaded woodland (more sun and drought tolerant than the typical astilbe). Deer resistant. Award winning.

Selected in Japan for its chocolate purple foliage, this new Astilbe has lacy 2' spires of pale pink plumes in midsummer. Dark leaves always add contrast when situated next to gold or white variegated foliage. Plants do best in light shade but will tolerant sun if provided with ample moisture.
