Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Amsonia is a mostly North American genus, only 2 species are currently known from outside the us. A. elliptica is from China, Japan, and Korea. Most Amsonia species make good garden subjects, and Amsonia elliptica is no exception. The Asian counterpart to A. tabernaemontana, A. elliptaca makes a bushy mound of foliage topped with sky-blue flowers in early June here in Wisconsin. The leaves are glossy and grass-green and makes an excellent backdrop for other garden plants during the summer. In fall the foliage turns a glowing yellow to orange. This species has been fairly slow growing for me so far and has not yet set seed. These are cutting grown. Rare.
